How much does IT downtime cost your business?

With three inputs, the calculator estimates the revenue exposed during a cyber incident or a systems outage. The result appears instantly and we never ask for your email or contact details.

Your details

An approximate figure. It is only used for the calculation in your browser.

Scenario *

Simulated impact level: Critical

An indicative assumption for this scenario, not an industry average or a guaranteed time. Adjust it to your case.

Affected activity

Partial means 50% of activity; total means 100%.

If you already know of any additional costs, they are added to the cumulative impact.

Estimated impact

How the estimate works

  1. It divides annual revenue by the working hours in the calendar (250 days × 8 hours by default) to get average revenue per hour.
  2. It multiplies that figure by the share of activity affected: 50% for a partial outage and 100% for a total one.
  3. The daily impact uses the hours in one working day, the weekly impact uses five working days, and the cumulative impact uses the downtime hours you set.
  4. Each scenario suggests a duration and affected activity as a starting point. These are simulation assumptions you can change.

Assumptions and limits

  • Revenue is not spread evenly across every hour: seasonality, shifts and order peaks can change the real result considerably.
  • The idle-staff cost uses Spain's average gross salary as an assumption; we do not calculate ransoms, fines, lost customers, reputational damage or technical support, because they depend on each business.
  • Scenario durations are not measured recovery times or service commitments.
  • Use it as an order of magnitude to prioritise continuity investment, not as a financial report.

Frequently asked questions

Is this figure what my business would lose?

Not exactly. It is the revenue exposed during the downtime. Some of that work may be recovered later, and there are also costs the calculator does not include. Treat it as an order of magnitude.

Where do the scenario durations come from?

They are indicative assumptions to start the simulation, not industry averages or guaranteed times. We recommend adjusting them to how long your business would really take to recover.

Is my data stored or sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser and we do not ask for your email or contact details. The share card does not include revenue, headcount or company name.

How can I shorten downtime?

With tested backups, a continuity plan with defined recovery times, monitoring and a team that acts quickly. We can review it with you.

How long would it really take you to recover?

We review your backups, critical systems and continuity plan to shorten downtime. No obligation.
