MSK Connect allows plugins to be updated without recreating connectors
Amazon MSK Connect supports plugin and configuration changes on existing connectors and retains committed offsets. The improvement simplifies maintenance but does not promise uninterrupted operation.

News summary
On 29 October, AWS announced that Amazon MSK Connect allows the custom plugin and worker configuration of an existing connector to be updated. Previously, these changes required the connector to be deleted and recreated. The update retains committed offsets, allowing processing to resume from the recorded point.
The feature has been announced at no additional charge in regions that support MSK Connect. For ERP, CRM, logistics or analytics integrations that use Kafka, it can simplify dependency updates and operational adjustments. Retaining offsets does not prove that every change is harmless: the new plugin may alter data behaviour or require different parameters.

Test the plugin with representative data and review format and credential compatibility. Do not confuse retaining the read position with validating the business outcome.
Plan a change window and check the flow from source to destination. Define how to return to the previous configuration if lag increases or errors occur.
