  • Comprehensive perimeter protection
  • Bespoke rule set configuration
  • Secure VPN connections
  • Proactive maintenance and support

What is a managed firewall service?

A managed firewall is a comprehensive cybersecurity service where Seintec takes full responsibility for the provision, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of your company's firewall. Unlike simply buying a piece of hardware, our service ensures your firewall is always up-to-date, correctly configured by experts, and monitored to respond to new threats.

This allows your business to delegate a critical and complex task, freeing up your IT team to focus on other priorities. We guarantee a robust first line of defence tailored to your needs, whether with a physical device on your premises or a virtual solution in the cloud.

Solution

Who is this service for?

Our managed firewall service is designed for businesses that need professional network security but lack the time or specialist resources to manage it in-house. It is ideal for:

  • SMEs and large enterprises that handle sensitive information or customer data.
  • Organisations that need to enable secure remote working via VPN.
  • Companies with multiple sites requiring reliable and protected interconnectivity.
  • Businesses that must comply with security regulations and require strict control of their network traffic.
  • Businesses looking to outsource their perimeter cybersecurity management to an expert team.

Features

We handle the entire lifecycle of your firewall to ensure your network is always protected. The service can be adapted with a physical or virtual solution depending on your infrastructure.

Configuration and Policies

  • Defining and applying traffic rules.
  • Network segmentation with VLANs to isolate systems.
  • Creation of VPN tunnels (site-to-site and for remote workers).
  • Web content filtering and application control.

Maintenance and Support

  • Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) with updated signatures.
  • Firewall firmware updates and security patching.
  • Periodic review of rules and policy optimisation.

Management Model

Shared Responsibility: Clarity and Efficiency

We define a clear framework so you always know what to expect from us and what each party's responsibilities are.

Seintec's Responsibilities

We handle the sizing, provision of the firewall, initial and ongoing configuration, monitoring, updates, and technical support for the service. We act as your network security team.

The Client's Responsibilities

The client is responsible for defining their business needs and security policies, requesting changes through the established channels, and providing the internet connectivity and physical environment required for the hardware.

The Manufacturer's Responsibilities

The hardware or software manufacturer is responsible for developing and releasing firmware updates and new security signatures, which we then test and implement as part of our service.

Why Seintec

A single technical point of contact, with no intermediaries

At Seintec, the same technical team that manages our own data centre infrastructure in Sant Miquel de Balenyà (Osona) will manage your firewall. With over 15 years of experience in systems and networking, we treat your security with the same rigour as our own.

This model gives you a single, direct point of contact, with no layers of subcontracting. It allows for smoother communication, a deeper understanding of your environment, and faster incident resolution. We aren't resellers; we are your outsourced systems administrators.

Scope

Service Scope and Exclusions

To ensure full transparency, it is important to outline the scope of the managed firewall service:

  • The service does not include the procurement or cost of the internet connection line.
  • Endpoint device protection (antivirus, EDR) is covered by other cybersecurity services.
  • The physical infrastructure (network cabling, UPS) at the client's premises is the client's responsibility.
  • Security incident response that extends beyond the perimeter is coordinated with specific response services.

For 360-degree protection, the managed firewall should be complemented by other solutions such as endpoint security, backups, and user training.

How we implement your managed firewall

  1. 01

    1. Analysis and Design

We conduct an initial review of your network infrastructure, traffic flows, and security requirements. Using this information, we design the solution (physical or virtual) and a baseline policy rule set.

  2. 02

    2. Provisioning and Configuration

We supply and install the physical hardware or deploy the virtual instance. We then apply the agreed configuration, including networks, VLANs, VPNs, and security profiles.

  3. 03

    3. Go-live

We integrate the firewall into your live environment in a planned manner to minimise impact on your operations. We carry out validation tests to ensure everything works as expected.

  4. 04

    4. Ongoing Management and Support

Once live, the service enters the operational phase. We monitor the system, manage requested changes, apply updates, and provide you with continuous technical support.

Frequently Asked Questions about Managed Firewalls

Physical or virtual firewall? When to choose which?

A physical firewall is ideal for protecting an office or data centre network. A virtual firewall is more flexible and better suited to virtualised server environments or cloud infrastructure. We analyse your specific situation to recommend the best option.

What's the difference between this and my ISP's router firewall?

The difference is night and day. A standard router's firewall offers only very basic protection. Our service uses dedicated security appliances with advanced features (IPS, granular web filtering, robust VPNs) and, most importantly, includes ongoing management by cybersecurity experts.

How do I request rule changes (e.g. opening a port)?

Change requests are managed through the support channels specified in your contract. Our technical team assesses the impact of the request, implements it securely, and notifies you upon completion, following a traceable procedure.

Do you review logs proactively?

Yes. Periodically reviewing firewall logs is a fundamental part of the service. It allows us to detect anomalous traffic patterns, attempted attacks, optimise rules, and generate reports on the state of your perimeter security.

Does the service include the internet connection (fibre, etc.)?

No, the client must provide their own internet connection. Our service integrates with your chosen provider to secure all traffic passing through that link.

What happens if an update or a change causes a problem?

We have rollback procedures in place and, wherever possible, we carry out changes within agreed maintenance windows. Support is available to resolve any incidents, with response times governed by the SLA in your contract.
